Potent among signs and symbols that have come down to us through the ages are the Cross, the Swastika and the Spiral.
But we should remember that the ancient significance has sometimes been obscured.
In western civilization the significance of the Cross is dominated by its symbolism of the Crucifixion, and the Swastika by the evil memory of Nazism.
But the Cross had deep meaning long before Christ, and the Swastika long before Hitler.
The Indian-America Sun-Cross is a powerful statement of the elements of the image
The vertical aspiring upward to the stars, the lateral extending to embrace the earth.
The ancient Sumerian Swastika dates back 7,000 years.
This symbol, with many auspices for the journey through life, was widespread through many separate and sometimes isolated civilizations.
Universal, and most significant of all, is the Spiral. It symbolizes the ever-widening search for knowledge reassuring us that we will always return to the central, constant and inviolable core of our Being.
The spiral runs through nature and science, through mysticism and art.
Its message is vital to the seeker, who would be blinded by looking directly into the blazing sun of full knowledge.
On this journey, you must find your own signs and symbols for reassurance that you are on the right path.
